Mandalas at the Edge of the World

In 2021, a fellow artist and I painted a large-scale mural on a wall by the ocean in Koh Phangan, Thailand — a collaboration born from the island itself, during a time when the world had gone quiet and time and space had lost their ordinary meaning.

The work moves between worlds: flowing lines drawn from ocean waves and tropical plants, detailed mandalas carrying sacred geometry and esoteric symbols, and bold Berber patterns with their angular geometry and stark contrast of red, black, and white. Each language distinct, yet woven together into a single visual field.

The seaside location is part of the piece. Light shifts across it throughout the day. Water reflections animate it. The mural breathes differently depending on when you stand in front of it.

Made during the pandemic - when making art felt like the only honest response to the unknown.
